The Committee of Friendship with the Parliaments of European Countries in the Federal National Committee meets with members of its Australian-Emirati counterpart │Emirates News Agency-WAM

Abu Dhabi, Sept. 18 (WAM) -- The Federal National Council (FNC) Friendship Committee with European Parliaments, chaired by Meera Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the FNC, met today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council in Abu Dhabi, a delegation from the Australian-Emirati Parliamentary Friendship Committee in the Australian Parliament headed by Senator Raf Giconi, Chairman of the Committee.

The meeting was attended by the members of the group, HE Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi, Vice Chairman of the Committee, Sarah Mohammed Falaknaz, and Dr. Hawa Al Dahak Al Mansouri, members of the Federal National Council, and Abdullah Ali Al Sabousi, UAE Ambassador to Australia.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen and develop parliamentary relations between the Federal National Council and the Australian Parliament, stressing the importance of exchanging information, parliamentary experiences and best practices, and coordination and cooperation on various political issues and positions during participation in various parliamentary forums.

The two sides praised the development of bilateral relations between the two countries since their establishment in 1975, stressing that the UAE attaches great importance to strengthening its relations with Australia, and looks forward to further cooperation in various fields of common interest, and the need to explore promising trade and investment opportunities in the markets of the two countries.

The meeting also touched on the current Federal National Council elections, which embody the vision of the wise leadership in the political empowerment program, where the elections witness a large participation of youth and women.

Al Suwaidi pointed out that the UAE will host the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP <>), which will be held this year in Expo City Dubai, and the conference stresses the importance of uniting the joint efforts of the international community to take urgent and fair climate action for all.

The Committee invited the Australian Parliament to participate in the parliamentary meeting accompanying the COP28 conference, organized by the Federal National Council in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

For his part, HE Senator Raf Gikone, Chairman of the Australia-UAE Parliamentary Friendship Committee in the Australian Parliament, stressed the depth of the friendly relations and cooperation between the UAE and Australia, noting that they represent a distinguished model for bilateral relations between countries in various sectors.

He expressed his aspiration to develop parliamentary relations between parliamentarians through mutual visits and meetings, praising the progress witnessed by the UAE in various fields, as it has become a role model, especially in the field of tolerance and coexistence.
