Strathalbyn Strikers to host Junior Football Carnival │ Southern Argus

The Strathalbyn Strikers are set to host a Junior Football Carnival in September that will unite the community and stimulate the local economy, with support from the Federal Government.

The Strathalbyn Junior Football Carnival, held on September 17 and 24, invites teams across the Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide Hills to participate in a round robin, seven-aside competition at the Strikers’ home ground.

The event will be supported by a $10,000 Federal Government grant awarded to Alexandrina Council to boost local sport and the regional economy.

“Strathalbyn is a fantastic location for such an event, and the township can expect an economic boost, with organisers to utilise local businesses to supply the equipment, services, food, and personnel required,” South Australian Senator, Andrew McLachlan, said.

“Sport is an important part of community life in Mayo, and the Federal Government has committed to building stronger and more resilient communities.

“I commend Alexandrina Council for continuing to support local sport across the district.”

The funding announcement was also welcomed by Federal Minister for Sport Richard Colbeck and Liberal Candidate for Mayo, Allison Bluck, who agreed the grant will have wide-ranging benefits for the local community.

“The Federal Government is strongly committed to supporting the growth of local sport across Mayo, and I’m very pleased to see this funding provided for a fantastic community event,” Ms Bluck said.

“Strathalbyn is the perfect place to host a soccer carnival, considering its vibrant community and love of sport.

“As the Liberal candidate for Mayo, it is a great pleasure to be engaging with local sports participants and organisers across the electorate to identify their needs for future growth.”

Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes thanked the Federal Government for its support.

“We are pleased to support this event and thankful for the Federal Government funding for this Junior Football Carnival,” he said.

“(It) will provide opportunity for participants to expand their social networks, be inspired by specialist coaching, and encourage our youth to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.”
