Senator Anne Ruston speaks at Kapunda Liberal dinner | The Leader

Kapunda Liberal Branch members and several supporters from nearby branches were pleased to hear from Senator the Honourable Anne Ruston at the recent Kapunda Branch Mid-Year dinner meeting held at the North Kapunda Hotel.

Senator Ruston, as the Assistant Minister for Agriculture, is well placed to represent the interests of regional South Australians. Based at Renmark, she is the only South Australian Senator with her office located outside Adelaide.

In addressing the meeting, Senator Ruston covered a wide range of topics and concerns, with a particular emphasis on her thoughts regarding Australia’s biosecurity.

Senator Ruston said, “I have a strong commitment to maintaining Australia’s high reputation as a safe food producer and exporter. I would like to think that everyone who travelled in and out of
this country, took personal responsibility not to jeopardise our place in the world on this issue.
“Agriculture still remains one of our main export industries, and with the world so mobile, there is a constant need to be extremely vigilant.”

The Member for Stuart, Dan van Hoist Pellekaan, also spoke at the meeting about recent government announcements regarding industry and energy matters. Mr van Hoist Pellekaan gave an informative outline of what had actually transpired, and indicated that there needed to be a lot more communication between both the Federal and State governments to achieve the best results in energy management and costs for both South Australia and Australia in general.

The meeting was also pleased to welcome The Hon Andrew McLachlan MLC and Ms Bernadette Abraham, a candidate for the Upper House in the March 2018 state election.

Members enjoyed fellowship and news of a forthcoming event, “High Tea at Anlaby”, to be held in November, where state Liberal Leader Steven Marshall, supported by many of his Shadow Ministers, will participate in a “Q & A” forum leading up to the next state election.
