ABC Radio Adelaide | News Bulletin | Recruitment of defence veterans in the public service

The South Australian Liberal MP Andrew McLachlan has proposed a quota of defence veterans for recruitment in the state public service. He believes it could be modelled on a program in New South Wales to employ veterans in its public sector. Mr McLachlan has completed two deployments to Afghanistan as a member of the Army Reserve. He says the public sector has many roles suitable for veterans and an intake program could help the change to civilian life.

McLachlan: “The state has a large number of positions and opportunities which I think should be made available, to veterans. It’s an opportunity to connect the veterans to the opportunities in the public service, but also for the state to show their appreciation and respect for the sacrifices that these veterans and their families have undergone.”
