$3,180,262 INVESTMENT IN A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR MAYO | Media Release

The Liberal and Nationals Government is investing in the future of Mayo with $3,180,262 in funding for 11 projects under Round 5 of the highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.

Projects to receive funding include:

• Milang and District Community Association Inc: Restoration of Manager's Residence in Milang Lakeside Butter Factory ($400,000)
• Victor Harbor Horse Tram Authority: Victor Harbor Horse Tram Stable and VIP Centre Construction and Upgrade ($203,000)
• District Council of Yankalilla/ADBRI: Construction of new amenities at Rapid Bay Jetty ($210,000)
• Advance Kingscote Progress Association: Igniting Kingscote Through Art, mural painting and lighting for four silos at Kingscote, KI ($72,000)
• District Council of Yankalilla: Construction of Normanville Visitor Accommodation ($2,045,450)
• Girl Guides South Australia Inc: New style accommodation at Tuckerway and Douglas Scrub Campsites, Blewitt Springs ($147,612)
• Myponga Memorial Hall Inc: Myponga Hall Restoration ($20,000)
• Goolwa to Wellington Local Action Planning Association Inc: GWLAP Farming, Healthy Communities Development Strategy ($20,000)
• City of Victor Harbor: Victor Harbor Investment and Attraction Strategy Project ($20,000)
• Olives South Australia Inc: South Australian Olive Festival, Tooperang ($17,200)
• Mount Barker District Council: Develop a Plan for the Arts ($25,000).

Senator for South Australia Andrew McLachlan CSC said the Government’s investment will deliver better facilities and economic opportunities for the region.

“The Liberal and Nationals Government is delivering the services and infrastructure our communities deserve,” Senator McLachlan said.

“We are backing these projects so local people have the facilities for the future while creating jobs to boost our economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“These projects are each vitally important for communities across Mayo and the Fleurieu Peninsula and are worthy recipients of funding through the Building Better Regions Fund.

“I look forward to seeing them progress and benefitting locals and tourists alike in this beautiful region.

“I have worked closely with local councils and community groups. It’s great to be part of a Government that will listen to and deliver for our community.”

Under Round 5 of the BBRF, the Government has committed almost $300 million to support 295 projects across regional Australia, which will create an estimated 9,900 jobs during the project period.

This latest funding round takes our total support through the BBRF to $1.38 billion across nearly 1,300 projects.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the Government is focused on ensuring our regions remain strong.

“The Liberal and Nationals Government is continuing to work hard on behalf of Australians living in regional and remote communities,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

“That’s why we’ve committed an additional $100 million under this latest round to take total funding to almost $300 million. This extra funding will support more projects, more jobs and create more economic opportunities in our regions to boost their recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Funding for these projects in Mayo is a testament to the dedication of Senator McLachlan.

“Funding under the Building Better Regions Fund supports economic and social infrastructure for the long-term benefit of regional communities.

“Infrastructure upgrades funded in this latest round will ensure our regions remain great places to live and visit, while helping support important regional industries which create jobs.

“Our Government is committed to delivering the best outcomes for regional and remote Australia, which is why we are providing local businesses, industries and families with opportunities to get ahead.”
