60th Birthday for Go-Karts │The Fleurieu Sun

By Michael Simmons

It was ready set go at the Angas Go-Kart Club’s 60th anniversary club championships on Saturday, November 4.

Liberal Senator Andrew McLachlan was there and officially opened the two day event, which saw approximately 200 competitors travel to Strathalbyn from across South Australia.

Mr McLachlan acknowledged the incredible hard work of the many passionate volunteers past and present, who had contributed to making the club such a success over the past 60 years.

“It is through the dedication of these passionate volunteers that the club has been able to succeed and grow over six decades,” Mr McLachlan said.

“I pay tribute to all of those who have contributed their time and efforts.

They are community heroes.

“The Angas Go-Kart Club is such a fantastic asset to the Strathalbyn community.

It regularly hosts hundreds of competitors and spectators from across the state.

“I am incredibly impressed by the club’s efforts to promote the sport at the junior level.

“It was fantastic to see so many children racing around the track and pulling into the pits with smiles on their faces.”

Mr McLachlan’s visit follows a meeting with club sponsorship coordinator Tammie Tugwell in Canberra earlier this year.

“I met Tammie when she was recognised in Canberra as the Good Sports National Volunteer of the Year and South Australian Volunteer of the Year,” he said.

“Tammie has done a fantastic job in securing grant funding for club upgrades and has strongly advocated to me the need for further investment to improve the club’s track and clubrooms.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Tammie and club president Shane Stephens to support the needs of the club moving forward.”
