Save the Port Noarlunga Sand Dunes
To the Honourable the Members of the House of Assembly in Parliament Assembled:
Allotment 108 Esplanade, Port Noarlunga is an ecologically significant portion of the Port Noarlunga Sand Dunes and is directly adjacent to the Southport Noarlunga Conservation Reserve. This allotment has been untouched since European settlement and contains some of the last examples of native dune floras on Adelaide’s coastline, including the critically endangered Australian Broomrape. Over the years, it has been lovingly maintained by local volunteers and community organisations including Trees for Life. Originally zoned as Open Space, the allotment was re-zoned as General Neighbourhood in 1984. The State Government has advised of its intention for the allotment to be sold ‘at market value.’ This risks this precious dune environment being developed and its ecosystems being destroyed
Request:
We call upon the South Australian Government and the Minister for Planning to restore Allotment 108 Esplanade, Port Noarlunga to Open Space status, acknowledge the ecological and community significance of this land, cease attempts to sell off this allotment, and preserve this allotment for conservation purposes.
